The Belle Époque building overlooking the lake was renamed the Palace Hotel in 1992, and was extended with a new residential wing known as the Pianella, a large modern annexe overlooking the lake. The Congress Centre were added, quickly becoming a reference point for congress activities in Italy. Since 2005 the hotel has been managed by the Villa d'Este group.
