Pasticceria Cassera Moretti

The Cassera Moretti pastry shop was established in 2018 in the premises that had housed a historic pastry shop in Menaggio since the early 1900s, which became famous for its famous maritozzo, which is still one of the signature delicacies in the town's tradition. “The pastry chef of the previous business told me that a Roman senator who often came to Menaggio on holiday, one day asked him for a maritozzo without cream. After several experiments, something similar was created; a pan brioche with sugar glaze that would soon become a traditional product of Menaggio”, says Maddalena, who runs the pastry shop with the support of her family.

In addition to the much sought-after maritozzi, at Cassera Moretti's you will find croissants with various fillings and Italian pastry classics such as mignons, cream puffs, cannoncini and fruit tartlets, all strictly homemade and made with the highest quality raw materials from local suppliers. T

The sweet pastries are also joined by pizzas, focaccias and savoury brioches. In high season, when Menaggio is populated by tourists from all corners of the world, the pastry shop also serves savoury breakfasts based on freshly prepared eggs and other components of the traditional English and American breakfasts.

All the preparation work is meticulously carried out by four very young pastry chefs, the oldest and most experienced being aged just 23 years old. After hotel management school they decided to embark on their careers in the Cassera Moretti pastry bakery, spurred on by the young and dynamic environment that had been created and by Maddalena's proactive and encouraging attitude.

Maddalena is well aware that it is not just the quality of the ingredients and the sophistication of the recipes that make the real difference, but also that it is the people and their motivation that ensure there are fresh, good and genuine products in pasticceria day after day. So it is that she has invested in the thorough preparation of her staff through the provision of training and refresher courses.

Following the acquisition of the business by the Cassera Moretti family, the pastry shop has undergone renovations that have changed its appearance, while maintaining the authenticity of the original vaults to preserve the historicity of this place. The interiors are modern yet classic, while the furnishings play on shades of blue and green that recall the colours of the lake and its surrounding landscape. Located in the historic centre of Menaggio, just a few steps from the lake and the town's main square, the Cassera Moretti pastry shop has two entrances. The one in Piazza Tommaso Grossi overlooks a small courtyard furnished with white and green tables where, in summer, you can enjoy a mouth-watering break or a refreshing aperitif while lulled by the breeze blowing in from the lake.
