The green side

The Kilometre of knowledge

Photography by Francesco Arena

The Chilometro della Conoscenza (Kilometre of Knowledge) is a naturalistic and cultural route of excellence for the city of Como that begins in the grounds of Villa Olmo. Here there are numerous plant species to be seen in a rediscovered natural landscape that has not been too tightly reined in by human hand. A bridge connects this wonderful space with the greenhouses and pond in the grounds Villa del Grumello.

The romantic nature of the garden manifests itself in the panoramic paths and belvederes, and between dense spaces and airy lawns that unfold in a rhythm of different styles. Together these create alternating environments with maritime pines and a pond adorned with charming lotus flowers and water lilies.

The green journey continues around Villa Sucota, home of the Antonio Ratti Foundation. Here nature enters into a dialogue with art in a network of paths that run through the gardens. The park is also full of cleverly arranged features to delight the visitor, including the belvedere, the music pavilion, and the lemon house. To complete the magic, self-seeded flowers, and permanent and temporary works of art make their appearances in the greenery, adding a special feeling of creativity to the location.
