Francesco, Chiara, Giacomo and Nicolò are the dreamers behind the ambitious project of Cascina Selvetto. This is a truly enchanted place a short distance from the village of Sala al Barro, surrounded by an isolated mountain range in the Pre-Alps reaching an altitude of 922 metres. Here, between the waters of the lake and the mountain peaks themselves, the history of Cascina Selvetto is interwoven with its breath-taking landscapes that are home to ancient trails, mule tracks and forgotten hamlets where the secrets of archaeological parks from the Gothic era also hide.
The farmstead is the nucleus of a project of the Cooperativa Sociale Solidarietà, which aims to serve this environment and its culture by restoring the local agricultural identity, and creating training and educational courses to promote local agriculture and ecological awareness with regenerative farming. The main aim is to find jobs for persons with disabilities, beginning with their integration into the dat-today life of the farmstead.
For guests, one of the most beautiful ways to experience Casciana Selvetto is to go on picnics in spring and summer, or to take part in the slow, sustainable tourism with a horseback ride, available all year round. The horse is the ideal companion for the exploration of this wonderful countryside, with rides for of all levels of ability, and always accompanied by a certified equestrian guide.
Cascina Selvetto also offers courses on the roots of rural culture and on food and healthy eating, and these are designed for everyone, young and old, and schools, families and communities. The knowledge acquired on the tools and methods of vegetable gardening, regeneration and growing-your-own can be applied by anyone in their everyday lives.
